Free sewing tutorial and pattern baby onesie





Materials:
* Knit fabric
* Ribbing - 4,5 cm (1.8 in) high
* Three Snaps

Instructions:
Download the free sewing pattern in size 50 - 56 (EU 0 - 2 months) US 3 months.

When working with knits, it is important not to stretch or pull the fabric while sewing. Also use a stretch needle and a stretch stitch. In this pattern all seams are sewed with a twin needle.

Step 1: Draw the pattern.













Draw the pattern with an aqua trickmarker on the back of the fabric.

The pattern is without seam allowance. Ad 0,5 cm (0,2 in) seam allowance. Draw the neckline, the bottom of the sleeves and the bottom of the onesie without seam allowance.

Step 2: Cut the fabric.











Cut a front piece, a back piece and two sleeves out of the fabric.

Step 3: Sew neckband.



















Align the raw edges of the neckband with the raw edge of the neck opening, wrong sides together. Sew 1 cm (0.4 in) from the outer edge. Stretch the neckband while you sew, but be careful not to stretch or pull the knit fabric.

Step 4: Sew neckband.



















Fold the neckband over the cut edge, re-fold and pin down. Sew.

Step 5: Add ribbing to the bottom of the onesie.



















Align the raw edges of the ribbing with the raw edge of the bottom of the onesie, wrong sides together. Sew 1 cm (0.4 in) from the outer edge. Stretch the ribbing while you sew, but be careful not to stretch or pull the knit fabric.


Step 6: Add ribbing to the bottom of the onesie.



















Fold the ribbing over the cut edge, re-fold and pin down. Sew.

Step 7: Sew part of the shoulder seam.
Put the shoulder of the back piece over the front piece and pin down. Sew.

Step 8: Sew the sides of the onesie.
With right sides facing pin down the back and front piece. Sew the sides of the onesie.

Step 9: Add ribbing to the bottom of the sleeves.
Align the raw edges of the ribbing with the raw edge of the bottom of the sleeves, wrong sides together. Sew 1 cm (0.4 in) from the outer edge. Stretch the ribbing while you sew, but be careful not to stretch or pull the knit fabric.

Fold the ribbing over the cut edge, re-fold and pin down. Sew.

Step 10: Sew the sleeve into the armhole.
Sew the sleeve into the armhole.

Step 11: Turn sleeve right side out.
Turn sleeve right side out.

Step 12: Pin sleeve down.
Turn shirt wrong-side out. With right sides facing, fold the sleeve in half. Pin down.

Step 13: Sew.
Sew down the entire side.
Stap 14: Turn right-side out.
Turn right-side out. Repeat step 10 until 14 for the right sleeve.

Step 15: Attach snaps.
Attach the snaps to the onesie.
