Free sewing tutorial and pattern easy to sew long sleeve T-shirt




Materials:
* Knit fabric Znok Design - Kurbits Purple (Fabric width: 140 cm) (long sleeve)
   60 cm (Size 4Y - 6Y)
   100 cm (Size 7Y - 8Y)
   120 cm (Size 9Y - 11Y)
   150 cm (Size 12Y - 15Y)

Size 5Y through 15Y can be bought in my online store. 

When working with knits, it is important not to stretch or pull the fabric while sewing. Also use a stretch needle and a stretch stitch. In this pattern all seams are sewed with a twin needle.

Step 1: Draw the pattern.
Draw the pattern with an aqua trickmarker on the back of the fabric.

The pattern is without seam allowance. Add 1 cm (5/8 inch) seam allowance. Add 2 cm (1 inch) seam allowance at the neckline, the bottom of the sleeves and the bottom of the shirt. Draw with the aqua trickmarker a second line 1 cm (1/2 inch) above the neckline.

Step 2: Cut the fabric.
Cut a front piece, a back piece and and two sleeves out of the fabric.

Step 3: Fold seam allowance neckline to the inside.
Fold seam allowance of the neckline to the inside on the first line (about 1 cm - 1/2 inch from the cut edge) and pin down.

Step 4: Fold seam allowance neckline to the inside.
Fold seam allowance of the neckline to the inside on the second line (about 2 cm - 1 inch) from the cut edge) and pin down.

Step 5: Sew.
Sew.

Step 6: Sew the sleeves.
Fold the seam allowance of the bottom of the sleeves to the inside and pin down. Sew the hems in place.

Step 7:  Sew the shoulder seams.
With right sides facing pin down the back and front piece. Sew the shoulder seams.


Step 8: Sew the sleeve into the armhole.
Pin the left sleeve right sides together, into the armhole. Sew the sleeve into the armhole. Repeat for the right sleeve.

Step 9: Pin down the sides of the shirt.
Turn shirt wrong-side out. Pin down the sides of the shirt and the bottom of the sleeves.


Step 10: Sew.
Sew.

Step 11: Fold the seam allowance to the inside.
Fold the seam allowance of the bottom of the shirt to the inside and pin down.

Step 12: Sew the hem in place.
Turn right-side out. Topstitch. Sew the hem in place.

    If I want the tshirt smaller, could I just sew it up without adding the seam allowance?

    Thanks so much! Your instructions are super - this was the first thing I've sewn in over a decade, and it turned out perfect. Well, I adjusted the width for my size 6er and forgot to adjust the length, but she says she likes it that way :)
