Free sewing tutorial and pattern toddler mittens



















Materials:
* Cotton fabric (Taza Geo Fuchsia by Dena Designs)
  - 16 cm x 50 cm (6,5 in x 20 in) (outside mittens)
* Fleece (16 cm x 50 cm) (6,5 x 20 in) (lining mittens)
* Strip of fabric
  - 3 cm x 90 cm (1,2 in x 35,5 in) - size: 1 year old
  - 4 cm x 95 cm (1,6 in x 37,5 in) - size: 2T
* Elastic - width: 1 cm (0,4 in). Length: 20 cm (8 in) twice.

Step 1: Draw the pattern















Draw the pattern (green) with an aqua trickmarker on the back of the cotton fabric and the pattern (blue) with tailors' chalk on the back of the fleece. The pattern is without seam allowance. Ad 0,5 cm (0,2 in) seam allowance. Ad 2 cm (0,8 in) seam allowance at the bottom of the mittens.

Step 2: Cut the fabric.
















Cut the patterns twice out of both fabrics.

Step 3: Pin down.



















Pin the two cotton pieces down, right sides facing. Also pin the two fleece pieces down, right sides facing.

Step 4: Sew.



















Sew along the outer edge.

Step 5: Trim.


















Trim.


Step 6: Sew the elastic.
Sew the elastic onto the outer mittens (marked out as a dotted line on the pattern). Use a zigzag stitch with maximum length and width. Stretch the elastic while you sew.

Step 7: Fold strip of fabric widthwise.







Fold your strip of fabric widthwise to the middle from both sides.

Step 8: Pin down.





Pin down.

Step 9: Fold strip of fabric withwise.




Fold your strip of fabric widthwise and pin down.

Step 10: Sew.




Sew together.

Step 11: Sew outside mittens to inside mittens.




















Pin the cotton mittens to the fleece mittens, right sides facing. Put the fabric ribbon in place and pin down. Sew inside and outside together. Leave a opening for turning right-side out.

Step 12: Trim.




















Trim.

Step 13: hand-sew the opening closed.




















Turn right-side out. Hand-stitch the opening closed. Sew the other mitten in the same way. (Repeat step 11, 12 and 13)

    This will help keep her tiny fingers warm! No more lost gloves! HORAY! :D
