If your size is slightly smaller or larger you can adjust the pattern by stretching or scaling down the whole pattern (A4) lengthwise. (Scale the height while leaving the width the same.)

Cut the pattern twice out of both fabrics, without sewing allowance. Please notice that both parts should be mirrored. Sew around the upper side of the room slippers. Use a very short zigzag stitch with maximum width.

Sew both part together (sole and vamp). Sew from the toe of the shoe to heel of the shoe. Use the same zigzag stitch. Put both parts tight together, to be sure to sew in both fabrics at the same time.

Free Pattern Toddler Long Sleeve T-shirt

The pattern is without seam allowance. Keep in general 0,5 cm (0,2 in) seam allowance. Cut the bottom of the back and front piece and the bottom of the sleeves with 2 cm (0,8 in) seam allowance. Cut the neckline without sew allowance.

Cut out a front piece (marked green (upper part) and yellow (lower part)), a back piece (marked blue (upper part) and yellow (lower part)) and two sleeves (marked orange). The long sleeve closes with buttons on the left shoulder, therefore cut the left shoulder with hems and the right shoulder without hems.

When working with knits, it is important not to stretch or pull the fabric while sewing. Also use a stretch needle and a stretch stitch. In this pattern all seams are sewed with a twin needle. Only the neck seam is sewed with a straight stitch.

Fold the end of the sleeves and sew the hems in place. With right sides facing: pin the front piece to the back piece. Sew the sides of the shirt and the right shoulder seam together. Turn right-side out. Fold the sewing allowance of the left shoulder hems to the back and pin down. Sew. Fold the back hem behind the front hem and pin down.

Pin and sew the sleeves right sides together, into the armholes. With right sides together, fold the sleeves in half. Sew down the entire side. Turn right-side out. Topstitch.

Align the raw edges of the neckband with the raw edge of the neck opening, wrong sides together. Sew 0.4 cm (0.2 in) from the outer edge. Stretch the neckband a lot while you sew, but be careful not to stretch or pull the long sleeve fabric. Sew around the whole opening. Fold the edges and sew. Trim. Fold the neckband over the cut edge, re-fold and pin down. Sew very close to the edge.

Sewing the neckband is quite complicated. Try it a few times with some scraps of knit fabrics before sewing the final neckband.

Using a ruler, mark where your buttons and buttonholes will go. Stitch the buttonholes. Sew the buttons on properly to make certain that they function well and last for years.

Use breathable materials for the sleeping bag like cotton and wool. I made my baby sleeping bag from two layers of cotton and I used an old sleeping bag for the lining. The zipper is 30 cm (12 in) long. Use an open-ended zippers and placed it upside down, to prevent the sleeping bag to be zipped open to easily.

Sew the elastic onto the outer mittens (marked out as a dotted line on the pattern). Use a zigzag stitch with maximum length and width. Stretch the elestic while you sew.

Fold your strip of fabric twice, lengthwise. Sew together.

Pin the outside of the mitten to the inside of the mitten, right sides facing. Put the fabric ribbon in place and pin down. Sew inside and outside together. Leave a opening for turning right-side out. Turn right-side out. Sew the other mitten in the same way.

Materials:

In the pattern is no seam allowance included. Keep in general 0,5 cm (0,2 in) seam allowance. Cut the bottom of the back and front pieces and the bottom of the sleeves with 1.5 cm (0,6 in) seam allowance.

Cut the sleeves (red, twice) and the cap (orange, twice and mirrored) from both fabrics.
Cut a left and a right front piece (light green (lower part) and dark green (upper part)), the back pieces (dark blue (lower part) and blue (upper part)) and the decorative pockets (pink,four times) from the fabric for the outside of the jacket.
Cut a left and a right front piece (The lining of the front pieces consists of one part, light green below and dark green above) and the back piece (light blue) from the fleece.

Pin both cap pieces together, with right sides facing, and sew together. Sew the notches on top and on both sides closed. Repeat these steps for the lining of the cap. Pin the outside of the cap to the inside of the cap, right sides facing. Sew inside and outside of the hat together. Leave the bottom open. Turn right-side out. Topstitch.

Start sewing the lining of the jacket: With right sides facing: pin the left and right front piece to the back piece. Sew the sides and the shoulder seams together. Turn right-side out.

Pin and sew the sleeves right sides together, into the armholes. With right sides together, fold the sleeves in half. Sew down the entire side.

Continue with the outside of the jacket: Pin the of the back pieces together, right sides facing. Sew. Topstitch.

With right sides facing, pin down the pocket-pieces. Sew along the outside edge. Turn right-side out. Topstitch. Stitch the buttonholes. Pin upper and lower parts of the left and right front pieces together, right sides facing. Put the decorative pockets between the fabrics into position and pin down. Sew. Topstitch.

With right sides facing, pin the left and right front pieces to the back piece. Sew the sides of the shirt and the shoulder seams together. Turn right-side out. Pin and sew the sleeves right sides together, into the armholes. With right sides together, fold the sleeves in half. Sew down the entire side.

With right sides facing, pin the cap to the outside of the jacket. Put the lining on top and pin down. Sew the entire upper edge of the jacket.

Pin the entire outside of the jacket to the lining, with right sides facing (exept for the sleeves).
Sew. Leave a 12 cm (5 in) opening on the lower edge of the jacket for turning right-side out. Turn right-side out.

Pull the left sleeves out through the opening at the bottom of the jacket. Sew together, right sides facing. Repeat these steps for the right sleeve. Turn both sleeves right sides out. Topstitch.

Topstitch the outer edges of the jacket.

Using a ruler, mark where your buttons and buttonholes will go. Stitch the buttonholes. Sew the buttons on properly to make certain that they function well and last for years.

With right sides together, fold the sleeves in half. Sew down the entire side. Serge off and topstitch.

Fold your strip of fabric (70 cm (28 in) x 3 cm (1,2 in) in half hot dog style, wrong sides together. Pin the strip of fabric with the right side of the fabric on the bottom of the blouse on the inside. Sew together. Pinch the two ends together, and sew, wrong sides together. Trim, re-fold, and then pin once again to the outside of the shirt. Sew together.

Pin one of the two collar pieces with right sides facing on the inside of the blouse. Sew together. Put the other collar piece with right sides facing on top and sew the outer edge. Clip the corners and turn right side out and press. Pin the collar on the outside of the blouse and sew together. Topstitch around the collar. Sew the dotted line which is marked on the collar pattern.

Using a ruler, mark where your buttons and buttonholes will go. Stitch the buttonholes. Sew the buttons on properly to make certain that they function well and last for years.

Keep 1,5 cm (0,6 in) seam allowance at the bottom of the sleeves and the bottom of the front and back pieces. The half moon will be used to cover a part of the seam allowance of the collar.

Pin and sew the shoulder seams together. Pin and sew the sleeves right sides together, into the armholes. Pin and sew the sides of the shirt together. Serge off and iron out your seams.

With right sides together, fold the sleeves in half. Sew down the entire side. Serge off and topstitch.

Serge off the outer edge of the half moon and the back and front neckline, to keep the edges from fraying.

Fold collar in half. Press. With right sides together, sew the ends of the collar closed. Clip the corners and turn right side out and press. Mark center points of the shirt and collar piece. Pin the collar’s underside to the garment, right sides together. Pin the half moon on top and pin down. Sew together. Serge off your seam. Topstitch the upper edge of the blouse. Start topstitching from the right upper corner of the left front piece until the left upper corner of the right front piece, following the bottom edge of the half moon.

Serge off the outer edge of the left and right front pieces. Folding over the edges of the shirt in the front and sew the hems in place about 2 cm (o,8 in) from the edge.

Serge around the bottom of each sleeve to finish off the edge. Sew the hem in place about 1 cm (0,4 in) from the edge.

Serge around the bottom of the shirt. Hem the blouse. Iron the hem. Sew the hem in place about 1 cm (0,4 in) from the edge.

Using a ruler, mark where your buttons and buttonholes will go. Stitch the buttonholes. Sew the buttons on properly to make certain that they function well and last for years.

Free Pattern Baby Bib with Owl Appliqué

* Vliesofix® (Appliqué)
* Bias tape (150 cm - 60 in)

Cut out 2 of the bib pattern.

Make the fabric owl appliqué: Draw the different pieces of the owl appliqué onto the vliesofix®. Draw it in a mirror, so it faces the right way when it is finished. Leave 1 cm (½ in) of extra material around the traced pieces and cut out. Iron the gluey side down to the fabric scraps. Peel off the paper.

Cut the shapes out of the different fabrics with the vliesofix® attached to the back. Iron the fabrics with vliesofix® at the back onto the front of the bib (Iron the gluey side down). Use a tight zigzag stitch to attach the pieces to the fabric. Keep most of the stitching on the design rather than the background fabric. The zigzag stitch should be 2 wide and 0.5 - 1 long.

Place the front piece right-side down on your work surface. Place the back piece right-side up on top and pin down.

The bias tape is attached in 2 steps:
1. Start to attach bias tape on the right neck side, go around the border on to the other side.
2. Attach bias tape alongside the neck with leaving tails of 25 cm to attach the bib to the neck of the child.

Cut out a front and a back piece. Sew all edges with a lock stitch. Fold the seam allowance of the neck edge (back piece) to the inside and pin down. Sew around the neckline edge.

Turn the facing (front piece) around to the back and pin down. Fold the seam allowance of the neck edge (front piece) to the inside and pin down. Sew around the neckline edge.

Place the front piece right-side up on your work surface. Place the back piece right-side down on top and pin down. Sew the right side seam and the left side seam. Flip the vest right side out. Fold the seam allowance of the bottem edge to the inside and pin down. Sew the bottom seam with a lock stitch.

Fold the seam allowance of the armholes to the inside and pin down. Be sure that the facing of the back piece is under the facing of the front piece. Sew around the armholes edges with a lock stitch. Attach the four snaps to the vest.

Put the inside of the dress (plain fabric) and the outside of the dress (vintage fabric) together with right side facing. Sew the neck seam and the bottom of the dress.

Flip the dress right side out. Use the opening at the side of the dress to get the left armhole out. Sew the armhole together, right side facing. Sew the right armhole in the same way. Finally, sew the zipper in place, stitching 0,8 cm (0,3 in) away from the teeth.

(Sew from g to h, from h to i and from g to j). Sew the roof with windows onto the upperside of the car. (Sew from k to l, from l to i and then to d, from k to f and then to j and from j to i.)

Sew the grill and the upperside of the car together. (Sew from m to n). Sew the grill to the bottom of the car. (Sew from o to p.) Sew the left side of the car. First sew the bottom of the car. Stuff the back of the body. Put the chin into position and pin down. Hand-sew one side of the chin to the body starting from point e. Hand-sew from point e to point f and then to point g. Print files and cut the pages in half. Make a hole into the clothespin and hang the clothespin on a nail. Put the paper sheet inside the clothespin. You could also decide to bind the birthday calender at your local print store or put the paper sheets under a magnet on a magnet board.

Free Tutorial Security Blanket Label

Materials:
* Fabric - 50 cm x 25 cm (20 in x 10 in)
* Polyfill - 20 cm x 20 cm (10 in x 10 in)
* Ribbon - total length 150 cm (60 in)
* Strong machine sewing thread

Instructions:
Cut two squares out of the fabric (20 x 2o cm - 8 in x 8 in), seam allowance; 2,5 cm (1 in)). Cut the ribbon in 16 pieces of 8 cm (3 in) long. Place the fabric right-side up on your work surface.
Fold the ribbon pieces lengthwise and pin into position. Sew the ribons to the fabric and remove the pins.

Place the second fabric right-side down on top and pin down. Sew both fabrics together. Leave a 10 cm (4 in) opening for turning right-side out. Remove all pins and trim corners diagonally, as shown on the image below.

Cut a square out of the polifill (19,5 x 19,5 cm - 7,5 in x 7,5 in) and put on top. Fold the upper fabric over the polyfill. Pin down and hand-sew together. Remove all pins and turn right-side out. Hand-sew the opening closed.

Free Pattern Crinkle Toy Bear

Materials:
* Soft fabric - 40 cm x 30 cm (16 in x 12 in)
* Breathable crinkle material - 20 cm x 30 cm (8 in x 12 in)
* Small piece of felt (eyes)
* Strong machine sewing thread

Crinkle materials
Non-breathable materials, such as cellophane packaging are commonly used. You can make these materials more breathable by making holes in the cellophane packaging, using a paper perforator. This is only possible if you put the cellophane packaging between two paper sheets. If you know of a breathable crinkle fabric, please leave a comment!

Trace and cut out the pattern. Cut two parts out of the soft fabric (mirrored) and one part out of the crinkle material. Embroider the shape of the upperpart of the legs with a sewing machine, using a zigzag stitch onto the body fabrics (for the best result use interfacing). Cut the eyes out of the felt. Put the eyes into position. Hand-sew the eyes to the head.

With right sides facing, pin down the body-fabrics. Put the crinkle material on top and pin down. Sew the body-pattern to the fabrics. Leave a 10 cm (4 in) opening for turning right-side out. Trim corners diagonally, as shown on the pattern. Serge the seam with a zigzag stitch. Turn right-side out. Hand-sew the stuffing opening closed.

Trace and cut out the pattern (seam allowance: 1,5 cm (5/8' in)). Please notice that both parts of the head and ears should be mirrored. The pattern for the polyfill is indicated by a dotted line.

Start making the body of the elephant. Pin the tail to the body fabric (the tail consists of six cross-stitch threads in three different colors). With right sides facing, pin down the body-fabrics. Sew from a to b. Trim corners diagonally and carefully cut in the seam allowance every 4 cm (1,5 in). Make a knot in the end of the tail. Sew a couple of times over the tail, to make it extra strong. Fold the seam allowance of the upper layer inside and pin down. Put the polyfill on top and pin down. Hand-sew the polyfill to the seam allowance. (The legs of the elephant do not contain a layer polyfill, because the seam allowance does overlap and therefore can be sewed to each other.) Turn right-side out. Hand-sew from b to c.

Continue with the head. With right sides facing, pin down the ear-fabrics to the head-fabrics. Sew from d to e. With right sides facing, pin down both parts and sew from e to f. Embroider the eyes with cross-stitch thread onto the head (for the best result use interfacing). Sew from g to h. Turn right-side out. Hand-sew from f to h. Put a layer polyfill inside the head and hand-sew into position. Consider using two layers of polyfill for the right consistency.

Put the head into position and pin down. Hand-sew from g to d and from d to e. Weave the tail of the elephant and make a knot in the end. Embroider the nails with machine sewing thread onto the feet of the elephant.

Trace and cut out the pattern, except for the wings of the swan. Seam allowance is not included in the pattern. Start making the body of the swan. The legs consist of two layers felt. Sew both layers together with a blanket stitch. Sew the notches in the lower part of the body closed. Pin the legs into position and sew down. Double-stitch over the legs.

Place the lower body piece right-side up on your work surface. Place the second body piece right-side down on top and pin the body pieces together. Sew the body pattern. Turn right-side out. The result is shown on the picture below.

Continue with the head. With right sides facing, pin down the head-fabrics. Sew the head pattern. Pin down the orange felt and sew the beak pattern. Place the beak into position; the head positioned vertically and the beak positioned horizontally. Hand-sew the beak to the head. Turn right-side out.

The wings consist of one part, visually divided into two seperate wings. The upper part of the wing-fabric is crinkled to suggest feathers. Fold the fabric widthwise every three cm (1.2 in) about 1 cm (0.4 in) deep and pin down. Place the second wing-fabric right-side down on top and pin down. Trace and cut out the wing-pattern. Sew the wing pattern. Leave a 3.5 cm (1,5 in) opening for turning right-side out. Remove all pins before turning right-side out. Turn right-side out. Hand-sew the opening closed.

Crinkle the upper part of the wing-fabric again every three cm (1.2 in) in the middle and pin down. For the best result, each fold is shifted 1.5 cm (o.6 in) downwards. Hand-sew the wings to the body straight from c to d through the middle, as shown in the picture below. Do also sew the sides of the wings to the body of the swan.

Using a stuffing stick, push small amounts of stuffing into the head and body part until it's firm and even. Hand-sew the head to the body.

Embroider the eyes on the brown felt. Hand-sew the felt (eyes and nose) to the head.

Free Pattern Magnet Puzzle

The nine puzzle pieces can be combined to be either a car, a plane or a moped and a boat. Put the magnetic puzzle pieces on a metal surface, such as a radiator, a metal cabinet or a magnet board. For five and six year olds.

This design contains small pieces and is therefore not safe for children under the age of three years old.

Materials:
* Felt
* Cross-stitch thread
* Magnets (Four magnets 300 grams (0.6 lbs) holding power and five magnets 600 grams (1.2 lbs) holding power.
* Stuffing - polyfill

Print and cut out the pattern. Use a different colour felt for the background of each puzzle piece. Sew front and back of the puzzle pieces together with a blanket stitch. Using a stuffing stick, push small amounts of stuffing into the puzzle pieces and put a magnet in each piece (at the back).

Tips & Tricks

If you buy clothes or softies in a store you can read the washing instructions on the label, which is attached to the product. With fabrics this is usually not the case. If you have any doubts about the washing instructions, the best thing you can do is to test it with a small piece of fabric. Allways prewash fabrics before using them. Most fabrics shrink when washed for the first time.

Toys for childeren have to meet strict requirements. Manufacturers should thoroughly test their toys before bringing them to market. Handmade clothing and toys have not been tested and therefore can never guarantee the same level of safety compared to a product which is manufactured in mass production. If you're making toys or clothing by hand for children under the age of three years old, make sure the product does not contain small parts (often reffered to as parts smaller than 3,5 cm/1,4 in diameter) such as buttons. Also use extra strong machine sewing thread.

Cut out the nose and eyes patterns from the felt sheets. Use a sewing thread to sew the felt pieces to the body part. Embroider the pupils on the eyes.

Place the front body piece right-side up on your work surface. Pin the fins into position. Place the second body piece right-side down on top and pin the body pieces together. Sew the body pattern. Be careful not to sew the stuffing opening. Double- stitch over the fins.
Turn right-side out. Using a stuffing stick, push small amounts of stuffing into the whale until the whale is firm and even, but not too tight. Hand-sew the stuffing opening closed.

Start making the back of the fish. Trace and cut out the pattern. With right sides facing, pin and sew the head to the first body part. Then sew the first body part to the second part. Sew the second body part to the thrid body part and sew the third body part to the fourth body part. Repeat this whole process to make front of the fish. Embroider the eyes and the mouth.

Continue with the fins. Cut the fabric in seven pieces. Fold all fin-fabrics widthwise (right sides facing) and pin down. Pin and sew the fin-patterns to the fabrics. Do not sew the bottom of the fins. Turn right-side out. Because we're making a toy for childeren under the age of 3 years old, we're trying to avoid parts smaller than 3,5 cm (1,5 in) diameter. Therefore you could make the ending of the fins longer and wider than displayed on the picture below.

* Fabric - 60 cm x 10 cm (25 in x 4 in) for the legs
* Cross-stitch threads number 297 Anchor or 973 DMC and number 403 Anchor or 310 DMC (eyes)
* Cross-stitch threads number 229 Anchor or 700 DMC, number 297 Anchor or 973 DMC and number 926 Anchor or 746 DMC (tale)
* Strong machine sewing thread
* Stuffing

Because we're making a toy for childeren under the age of 3 years old, we're trying to avoid parts smaller than 3,5 cm (1,5 in) diameter. First I intended to use buttons for the eyes (as you can see on the picture above), but for safety reasons the eyes are cross-stitched in the final design. Also the legs are made of one part in the final design.

Cross-stitch both eyes of the elephant. You can use one of these examples.

Fold both ear-fabrics widthwise (right sides facing) and pin down. For both ears, sew the outline, as shown in the second picture on the top row. Fold inside out.

Fold both ear-fabrics on fold line (as shown in the third picture on the top row) and pin it down.

Cut the lace withwise in two equal pieces. Fold both pieces twice on foldline (as shown in the first picture on the third row) and pin down.

Pin both ears to the body fabric. Sew the ears onto the body fabric. (Sew the outline as shown in the first picture on the fourth row.)

Pin the skirt to the body fabric and do the same for the tale (the tail consists of three cross-stitch threads). Knot the cross-stitch threads together. Fold the body fabric on fold line (as shown in the second picture on the fourth row) and pin down.

Sew the outline on the body fabric, as shown on the first picture on the fifth row. Depending on the flexibility of the body fabric used, you can consider making the trunk of the elephant wider or shorter, to avoid problems when folding inside out. Fold inside out. Weave the tail of the elephant.

Fold the body fabric below the skirt inside on fold line (as shown in the second picture on the fifth row) and pin down.

Cut the outline (as shown on the first picture on the sixth row) out of soft and thick fabric. Depending on the thickness of the material, you will need one or more pieces. Pin the pieces together and sew the outline.

Using a stuffing stick, push small amounts of stuffing into the trunk of the elephant. Put the soft and thick fabric in the body fabric, as shown in the second picture on the sixth row. Sew the outline, which is also shown in the second picture on the sixth row.

Cut the fabric for the legs withwise in equal two pieces. Pin leg fabrics together (right sides facing). Cut the outline as shown in the first picture on the second last row. Next, sew the outline as shown in the second picture on the second last row. Fold inside out. Fill the legs with stuffing.

Put legs between body fabric and pin together. Sew outline as shown in the last picture. Please note: Do not also sew the skirt of the elephant!
